“I was planning a trip to Australia to visit family in Darwin. Knowing it was a long journey I wanted to make the most of my time over the other side of the world from Wales and create some time by myself. I googled three of my top interests – surfing, spa treatments and cooking – in an area which looked stunning on Instagram – Byron Bay. I found Sam! We arranged a Skype call and when I said I was interested in Ayurveda as well as healthy living she promised me we would touch on that with the selection of spa treatments and underlying through the recipes we cooked. What a find! It was obviously meant to be. Sam created an itinerary for me which we discussed over email, and on arrival at my boutique hotel, The Atlantic, waiting for me was a lovely pack of goodies and the plan for the week. The following morning, we met in person for the first time and it was effortless, we got on so well! Sam showed me around the area, the town and the hinterland. We cooked at her kitchen, and visited local restaurants, cafes and hotels to see what Byron was all about. One of my questions was why has Byron got it so right? Sam answered these by introducing me to her friends and colleagues as we travelled around the area. On the last day, we spent time discussing business ideas for me to take back to Wales with me and that was fantastic, she understood my goals. The spa treatments were idyllic and perfectly placed to send me to sleep mid-afternoon to assist with overcoming jet lag. Sam arranged surfing lessons with the almighty Rusty Miller each morning. The Atlantic provided bikes so I would cycle over to The Pass at 6:30am and meet Rusty for some beach yoga before braving those mischievous waves. Though Rusty was a teacher, he simply was a guru too. Whatever he said to me on the beach and before that second Australian wave worked wonders as I was gliding for what seemed like hours on my second attempt. I would entirely recommend contacting Sam to find out what she can do for you in Byron Bay, be a classic cooking session, birthday meal, and simply being the Girl About Town.
