“I’ve got the privilege of learning from the best”
‘Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of attending my first cooking class with the lovely Chef Sam Gowing. A few years back I never would have dreamt that I would be so lucky to be working with such amazing people and discovering my passion for food. There was a week where I made up a bunch of fried rice and that’s all I ate for a whole week – like we’re talking breakfast, lunch and dinner! I had no idea about cooking (clearly) and wasn’t interested in learning about what I was putting into my body. Fast forward 3 years and I’ve got the privilege of learning from the best’ – Stacey Allen, MKR

“Before long we were sitting down to the delicious meals we had prepared, which we had even managed to plate up looking like a Donna Hay shoot”
At rather late notice I booked a couples cooking experience for my wife’s birthday as a bit of a surprise, and what a lovely little surprise it was, Sam greeted us as she was fetching treats from her herb garden and ushered us in to her inviting kitchen. As prearranged, Sam had catered the cooking menu to fit my wife’s Hashimoto disease and gluten free requirements. I’d also requested some easy dishes we could reproduce at home.
We made 3 delicious and nutritious Japanese influenced meals, our firm favourite being a soba noodle sesame\wakame\almond dish that is ridiculously tasty and medicinal at the same time.
We enjoyed getting hands-on in the kitchen, staying present in the moment without any outside distractions, before long we were sitting down to the delicious meals we had prepared, which we had even managed to plate up looking like a Donna Hay shoot.
As we cooked, Sam talked us through the food sources she used, nutritional uses and alternatives which we found useful as they were all local and familiar to us. Would highly recommend this cooking school to others, especially those who would like to add some variety to the weekly dinners at home. Thanks Sam! – Andrew, Kingscliff 2022
