Rockin’ Women Wednesdays – Sam Beau Patrick

Meet Sam Beau Patrick, a mother of three, nutritionist, naturopath, and an author who believes food is the currency of love. A girl after my own heart and someone I have had the pleasure of meeting on too few occasions. Sam grew up in an Italian household and food was everything. Her family grew lots of different vegetables, had chooks, sheep, and made wine all in the backyard of suburban Hobart. Here’s Sam.

For the past 25 years I have been in the wellness industry holding retreats, running a clinic and inspiring people to be happy and healthy through good food and loving life. My speciality areas (and books) are about hormones: fertility, menopause, angry working women and reproductive cancers. Underpinning every thing I do is FOOD and I travel the world experiencing amazing food, understanding cultural philosophies and family traditions.

Personally I believe food carries more than just “vitamins and minerals”. To me it carries untapped energy. The farmer that grew it, the sun that bathed it to the moon that nurtured it. Good organic food can be like consuming LIFE!
I always talk to the farmers at the organic markets (they are the most important people in our lives after all). I thank my food and even photograph my food. I find the colours stimulating, the tastes delicious and the more simple for me the better.
I think cooking should be about engaging ALL our senses – taste, texture, smell, visual etc.. I am even holding a retreat in Bali this year based on enlivening these philosophies, as many people in western countries see food as a “hassle”and disruption to work.

My favourite meal is eye fillet mignons with organic salad.
1 x  eye fillet steak
All sorts of greens – spinach, lettuce, sprouts, Chinese vegetables, bunches of herbs
Carrots, tomatoes, artichokes, capers, olives
½ lime or ½ lemon juice
3 tbs tamari sauce
¼ cup olive oil

I also love celtic or Himalyan salt on my steak and home made tomato chutney

What’s your survival food when you’re travelling.
Always meat. I will find it if I need it. Sometimes (long haul flights) I travel with activated pecan nuts.

What’s your healthy go-to comfort food – either at home or restaurant?
Can I answer wine here? Ok, probably soup. I love a thick bacon bone inspired veggie soup. It always lifts my mojo and energy.

Do you have a secret remedy that keeps either your voice, mind and body in shape.
I think my greatest weapon is water. I drink at least 10 glasses of filtered water every day. It’s not hard and I love it. I am sure that is why I have clear skin too.
